Install via the Google Play Testing Program

Install ScreenOnAuto through the Google Play beta-tester list — required on Android 14 and above.

ℹ️ Note This installs the full, official ScreenOnAuto app. Google’s beta-tester list is simply how it’s delivered for installation (and what lets it work correctly with Android Auto) — it is not a separate trial or unfinished version.

How It Works

• Sign-ups run in 30-minute rounds, each with a limited number of spots. The sign-up page shows a live countdown.
• When a round’s sign-ups close, the tester list on Google Play is updated. A few minutes later, everyone who got a spot has a 25-minute window to install.
• There’s no waiting list: if a round is full, just try the next one.
• No emails are sent — everything happens on the sign-up page.

How to Join

1. On your phone, open the sign-up page and sign in with the Google account your phone’s Play Store uses — the app is only visible to that account:

2. Tap Sign me up for this round. The page counts down to your install window — keep it open; the install buttons appear there automatically.
3. When your window opens, tap Become a tester and accept the invitation. The page then shows a download link: tap it and install ScreenOnAuto as usual. If the Play Store doesn’t show the app, see If the Play Store Doesn’t Show the App below.
4. After installing, open Android Auto → Customize Launcher and confirm you see the two ScreenOnAuto entries (full-screen and Legacy). A third entry, Media Controller, appears only on older Android Auto versions — on newer ones it is absent by design, and that is fine. If the Play Store Doesn’t Show the App

1. Close the Play Store and tap the download link again — the app usually appears after a few tries.
2. Still missing? The Play Store can take 5–10 minutes to catch up. Wait a few minutes (within your window) and try again.
3. Still not there? In the last 5 minutes of your window, tap Extend to … on the sign-up page to keep your window open for another round. You can extend every round.

Once it’s installed, continue with step 4 above.

Good to Know

• Missed your window? Just sign up for another round — there’s no limit.
• After your window ends, the installed app keeps working normally.
• Updates: once your window ends, the Play Store stops offering you updates. To update, sign up for another round and tap Become a tester again during your window, then the download link — the Play Store page shows Update instead of Install.
• Your email address is used only to add you to your round’s tester list, and is deleted once that round’s install window ends.

Notes

• On Android 13 and below, joining the beta is optional — you can sideload the APK instead (see the installation guide).
• A Play-installed build and a sideloaded APK use different signing certificates, so they cannot update each other on the same device. To switch channels, uninstall the existing one first.
